Let’s try two quick, simple, answers:1) Maxwell’s demon is fails because it doesn’t consider the whole system. It takes energy to measure the speed of the molecules and open/close the door. So the entropy of the whole system is increasing. 2) Mass is converted into energy every day. You see it. When the Sun fuses hydrogen into helium, there is a small decrease in mass. Some of the resulting energy is carried off in neutrinos. The rest arrives as photons. Heat and light from the Sun. The reverse is more difficult since you have to get a lot of energy into one place at once for this to occur. But it has been seen in particle accelerators. You are free to believe what you want. But you can’t deny facts. |
