Have you ever paid the "death tax" after losing a loved one? Have you been through the experience?Yes. That person inherited a stock portfolio that was worth around $60K. With minimal changes, that portfolio appreciated to over $800K over 30+ years. That person lived off of the dividends and social security and never touched the principal. If capital gains had been paid on paper profits over those 30+ years, then the tax bite would have been far greater than the inheritance tax that was paid by the estate. |
