Have you forgotten the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993? Yeah, raising those taxes on the uberrich really hurt the economy after that, didn't it? It'd seem Voodoo Economics is so irreconcilably flawwed that the opposite is actually much better for the economy. Raise taxes on the rich, strip off the money they'd only try to hide overseas anyway, reduce taxes on the middle class, and magically they'll turn around and spend that money, all while the deficit declines. The middle class don't have offshore accounts, funds, charities, and other tax dodges, so if tax rates go up you're wringing a dry sponge and curtailing spending in other economic sectors. The upper class aren't a magical money tree, but by increasing rates, closing loopholes, and getting money that had been headed overseas back we can pay down the deficit without cutting essential services or hurting the economy. |
