Not to argue about the conspiracy theory if it did nor did not exist, this is what I remember reading in the Power Broker. Caro never said that buses would not fit under the overpasses. What he said was that they were deliberately rounded so they would not fit if you were under some right lane overpasses which were as low as 8 ft high, but would fit in the left lane which were never lower than 10 feet. However, since bus drivers did not know for a fact that they would fit under the overpasses in the left lane, none were bold enough to experiment, so they would just avoid the parkways altogether. |
