FWIW, they've already run the fiber to my home but I'm not interested in "DSL only" and there's no "franchise activity" out here as yet. I have had some talks with their engineers and the 12 pair copper that runs out here is on its last working pair now. Given that there's fiber already here, I expect the next trouble call to have them install what they're authorised to do here even if "TV" ain't been franchised as yet.FCC served notice by pre-emption though that there is 90 days between the decision (a week or so ago) and AUTOMATIC approval for FiOS if the community has failed to grant a franchise. So if that's actually going to happen, and PHUCK the PSC, then I'm gonna go for it and let you know if the lineup is as good as DTV. Me? I don't care ... I have tuner cards in a video server and as long as they provide me a BASEBAND output from whatever box, then I'm cool as long as it has an IR on the box I can program to be controlled from the computer. I'm told that "Mediaportal" (which is the server software I use) already has the codes for Verizon FiOS available for switching rate as well as keys that I can write a script for to "talk to the box" so I'm ready if it happens. TiVo ... heh. COMPLETELY honors the "do not record" flag on a video signal. I'll have NONE of that, thank ya ... if I get me a feed into my box, I will NOT accept "do not tape" ... I have 15 terrabytes of hard disk and over 1200 DVD's of things that were worth keeping. Ain't gonna stop now, which is why I don't believe in TiVo. Not to mention that I once watched "Hedwig and the Angry Itch" on IFC and it KEEPS insisting that I *might* want to watch ANOTHER "gay film." Since "Vaterland Sicherheit" is watching, I'm not sure if I want that on my "permanent record." :) The BEAUTY of FiOS though is that they're doing "multicolor" light in that plastic between the REAL glass and your sets. And there's more laser colors coming every few weeks. I really can't SEE them "phucking bandwidth" like the cables do, and now that DirecTV has 5 birds in the air (4 more coming) I don't see THEM running short on bandwidth either. Cable? Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Cable phuckers ain't done CHIT since 1998. :( |
