There were practical considerations as far as automotive use, again that long warmup time, fact that a Stirling engine for a specific amount of HP is MUCH larger than any other type, and of course the issue with bad seals. Something else to keep in mind is that any reciprocating engine DOES require some serious lubrication. Ask anyone who worked steam locomotives.

Something I've found amusing is the AIR powered motor with compressed air. Go google that angle ... talk about zero emissions. :)
