I have just spent (misspent? wasted?) a couple of hours on the Grauniad style guide and have only perused it through “D”. It’s as fascinating on its choice of language as it is on its politics. It’s Burma not Myanmar—so the generals are out. But just about every Indian and Chinese name you could think of has been retransliterated. Oh, and it’s Derry, not Londonderry.So why not Athena, or Athinai? |
