I don't think Americans always realise the extent to which, from the perspective of another continent, it simply looks as if America wants to own the world, and rule it according to America's ideas and culture. True freedom must include the right to be different from you - just as I respect your right to be different from us. The American Revolution in 1776 was utterly justified, but now we need a British Revolution so that *we* can gain our independence from the USA, just as you gained your independence from us 230 years ago. |
