Dante had courage in abundance. Like my friend in the 11th grade who had bone cancer. Never complained once. I never knew his true agony - I could only try to imagine it and empathize - and do what I could to make his life easier.

I carried his bookbag for him, and the hardest thing for me was to convince him it was not an act of charity. He was so self-propelled.

I miss him today still.
