I'm wondering if Blakeman even knew about Azumah's views. I sincerely doubt he would have endorsed him if he knew.The gubernatorial election involves more than a single individual. It's the election of an executive team and a political party. The election gives the voters a hint of how well the candidate's team would govern and the quality of the office holders that political party will provide. As you can tell from the video, this was a photo op for all Republican candidates running in Kings County. The candidate's election staff scheduled the meeting. Blakeman appointed this staff. The staff should have known Blakeman's views and the views of every candidate seeking his endorsement. If the staff did not know the views or failed to communicate them to the candidate, then this is an indication of how thoroughly Blakeman would act as governor. Blakeman would delegate to a staff that did not properly vet appointments or would withhold important infromation from the governor. Both are prescriptions for disaster. The staff did not reach out to each candidate individually. The staff contacted the Kings County Republican leader. The county leader supplied the candidates. The Republican Party has its own set of fringe elements. The county leader either did not recognize that an Azumah endorsement might embarrass Blakeman or he did and noted this on the endorsement list he sent Blakeman's staff. If the former, this is an indication of the caliber of appointments to expect in a Blakeman administration. If the latter, the onus for the embarrassment falls squarely on Blakeman. |
