The Met Controversy

Yesterday, I took the 0436 Metro-North Hudson Line down to the city. It was a gorgeous morning and I spent time at The Met and the Morgan Library and Museum around walking miles through Central Park and along the High Line and West Village. As I was waiting for The Met to open, I began scrolling through The New York Times and happened across the linked article, something I heard about a few months ago when it first became public knowledge and considered worthy to report. As a longtime member of The Met, and one who has been openly critical of The Met Gala for a variety of reasons, should The Met go ahead with the 2027 plan by honoring the antisemitic British fashion designer John Galliano, regardless whether he/they is in attendance, I will need to have a coming to (fill in the blank) moment as to whether I will forego my future membership going forward. If so, it might be hypocritical of me to still visit the museum periodically as a non-member since the "pay-as-you-wish" suggested donation went the way of the dinosaur back in 2018 despite the fact that New York State residents like me or myself need only pay 1 cent per ticket. Strolling through the halls of The Met is one of the great pleasures of my life, a low bar I know, but nonetheless. It is a question of principle for me, something The Met seems to have lost. In summary, the honoring of this he/they is problematic and that is being incredibly generous. Anna Wintour of Vogue, an influential trustee of the museum, has always supported and pushed for The Met not to be swayed by the outside noise. The steps the museum has taken to allay the concerns and fear, and yes, anger seems to me one borne of expediency, sort of like El-Sayed visiting Jewish leaders in Michigan.

Anyway, I am working on a list to identify call-out expose call it what you will those of you, to include those who no longer post here, who pretend to be knowledgeable of the arts but really know next to nothing and simply want to come across as academics and/or high-functioning savants to draw attention to yourself and your quote brand close quote. You know who you are so get ready. Unreal.
