There’s a funny story I read not long ago about the small hospital in Guymon. Like many rural and small town hospitals it faces financial struggles, and in hopes of saving money closed its maternity ward. Women have to go to Liberal or Amarillo to give birth.Babies being unpredictable after all, some preggo women can’t make it that far and end up having babies right in the emergency department at the Guymon hospital. They and the babies then have to be sent to Liberal or Amarillo. Because I would imagine that a high percentage are on Medicaid, with its notoriously low reimbursements, the hospital ends of losing $$$. |
