Yeah, I once drove a backwoods private logging road, open to the public, from Baxter State Park to Greenville ME. Boring as all hell and a bumpy ride too.

My suggestions have the advantage of being paved, and the road to Kegashka (north shore of the St. Lawrence River) has the benefit of being really scenic too.
