Wrong approach, of course. They should charge data centers the incremental cost of new electricity, not the average. Then data centers wouldn't send electric bills through the roof.

But you can see why voters are upset. Just a few years ago, the retail cost of one additional kwhr in NYC was 20 cents. Now it's 40 cents.
