A State Department official made some comments in a meeting with the Pope's ambassador that the Pope had better be careful of what he says because don't forget about Avignon.The reference is to Pope Boniface VIII being physically mistreated by allies of the King of France and dying from his injuries, after which the King of France bullied the Cardinals into electing a French Pope who moved the papacy to Avignon. A prudent Pope would take that reference as a hint not to travel to the United States for the time being. If the US can arrest Maduro and charge him with a crime, why not the Pope? The Pope only said he can't travel to the US at the moment. I'm sure he'd meet Trump if Trump came to the Vatican. |
