Pretty much every developed country allows business contracts to be interpreted by private arbitration. That could be agreed upon to be a Sharia court, a Jewish religious court, a Roman Catholic tribunal* or an individual priest who promises to uphold Canon Law.The arbitration can be binding if both parties agree. What goes unsaid but is always true is that the judgment of the religious court or private arbitrator can never counter civil law. For example, it can't order someone to be flogged, and it can't order a division of marital assets not permitted under civil law. And so on. * The primary role of Roman Catholic tribunals is to grant annulments. |
