Here is my source for not celebrating when a person dies, even an enemy.Rashi relates that when the Egyptian soldiers were drowning in the Red Sea after the Israelites had crossed to the other side, the Heavenly Angels began to sing praises to God. God admonished them, saying "my creations are drowning in the sea and you want to sing?" The lesson for us is that every person, no matter how evil, is a creation of God and we as human beings should not celebrate the death of any of God's creations. We can take notice of it, we can express relief that the evil person can no longer harm people but we cannot celebrate it. |
