Police responding to shooting at West Bloomfield synagogue

Law enforcement is responding to a shooting at a West Bloomfield synagogue.

Michigan State Police said police are responding to an incident at Temple Israel, a Reform Jewish synagogue on 5725 Walnut Lake Road.

FBI Director Kash Patel released a statement on X saying that FBI personnel are at the scene.

According to their website, Temple Israel is the country’s largest Reform synagogue, with 12,000 members. It has an early childhood education center and educational programs for families and adults.

The shooting was reported at 12:30 p.m.

Community members are asked to stay away from the area. Troopers are also increasing patrols at other places of worship in the district.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit released a statement, saying their agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown.
