Posted by cortelyounext on Tue Feb 3 13:34:16 2026 Finally, something I have advocated for since the beginning of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement surge and something we can all agree is long overdue. The US Olympic Team has changed the name of its so-called hospitality space from Ice House, which was clearly insensitive and racist, to Winter House, a more compassionate, fitting, and appropriate name. The Berkeley, California City Council courageously weighed in and suggested the change to align with their values as manifested in its municipal code which mandates the use of non-gendered language in the public domain such as replacing "manhole" with "maintenance hole" and "man-made" with "artificial" and "men and women" with "people". Why it has taken this long to rename the Ice House is absolutely bewildering to me but at least it has been done. |
