The linked excerpt is from my favorite jazz drummer Elvin Jones who is widely known for his work with the classic Coltrane Quartet. It shows his mind at work in so far as developing, or breaking down, a composition into its component parts. You might also begin the clip from the beginning and need only watch maybe a couple minutes, which includes the great double bassist Ron Carter speaking of Jones, and then decide whether you want to watch the whole thing which runs about 30 minutes.
