Other than potential emergency situations, Israel does not really need foreign aid - it's fully able to find its own armaments. The aid provided to Israel, though, is also a benefit to US arms manufacturers, as there are requirements that the vast majority of funds be spent in the US. There's also the benefit that the US gets real-world feedback on the performance of weapons systems that are sent to Israel, since Israel tends to use it's weaponry much more frequently and intensely than the US.That's not to say that Israel does not benefit, or even benefit more than the US,from the aid provided - but it's not purely a one-way street. subfan |
