Doesn't the diaresis go above the e in engineering?The trouble with geoengineering is that: - If done properly, the world will be a net winner, but many individual people will be losers. If you're a farmer in Saskatchewan, geoengineering might wipe out your business. The compensation for the losers could cost hundreds of billions, and it will be easy to lose sight of the fact that failing to do it will cost the world trillions. Note for example that the US is still subsidizing fossil fuels even though the long term cost of that subsidy is phenomenally large. - It won't always be done properly. There will be cases that are purely destructive and not at all helpful to anyone. |
