In deference to Dave from the Metroplex and Spider-Pig, both of whom I believe practice(d) law as attorneys or clerks, the following is of course not intended to make light of a heart wrenching situation.Defense Lawyer: "Thank you all for being here. I will make a brief statement but as this is an ongoing investigation I regrettably will not be able to address any questions. First and foremost, this is a tragedy. I ask the public not rush to judgement based solely on media reports. Every citizen, irrespective of legal status, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, not in the court of public opinion. My client maintains his innocence and we fully intend to take this matter to trial and mount a vigorous defense because he is innocent of these charges. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities and once the investigation is complete and all the evidence is examined we remain confident our client will be fully vindicated and can begin to put his life back together and move forward as a productive member of society. Our hearts and prayers are with the deceased during this difficult time. Thank you." |
