You can’t have it both ways. Either it’s legal for federal agencies to take control of local police departments or it’s not. In the case of desegregation, local authorities were failing to enforce federal laws. In DC, federal agents who are not identified and refuse to identify themselves on request are picking people up off the streets for unknown crimes and set up checkpoints in “safe” locations, and not the crimes and neighborhoods that are being used to justify the current “crime emergency.” That’s the kind of stuff that authoritarians do, not leaders of functional democracies.Your disdain for the actual rule of law is quite clear, and doesn’t represent the values that the United States actually stands for. Do me a favor and spare me your outrage because you don’t actually care about what the citizens and residents of the District of Columbia want or need to improve their communities. |
