I was at Hofstra University for the NCAA D1 National Quarterfinals in college lacrosse back in the spring and as I was heading back to the LIRR after Syracuse beat Princeton in the late game I heard gunshots followed closely by the sound of distant sirens. It must have been heavy weapons going off since I was walking along the noisy Hempstead Turnpike or whatever that road is called at the time. Maybe the sounds were coming from Roosevelt or Uniondale where many victims are taken annually. I walked over to the Nassau Coliseum before the Cornell and Richmond game since I got there early but I made sure there were people around so I would not become just another in a long line of statistics lost to time like alm or a1m or aem by the Brentwood sign all those many years ago. Amanda was there. |
