There's no way I can synthesize my thoughts into anything coherent for consumption here, but I'll try.1. Iran can't be allowed to get nuclear weapons, period. 2. I'm inclined to believe the current operation is because Israeli intelligence believes Iran is extremely close to a major milestone in their nuclear development program, but Bibi also has political reasons for prolonging the Gaza war or creating new fronts in order to keep his coalition together and himself out of jail. 3. Trump has made the US somewhat irrelevant in what is going on right now. Bibi's political acumen is stronger than most world leaders', and despite what Trump and MAGA might believe, he isn't brilliant and he isn't "leading" right now on this particular issue. As it is, Trump made things worse by ditching Obama's Iran deal (which I opposed when it was signed, but abandoning it afterwards was idiotic), then trying to negotiate an almost identical agreement now, only to have that plan derailed by Israel. This can be yet another example of how Trump is damaging the reputation of the US in ways that may take generations to fix. |
