Well the only ranked choice voting in NYC this year is for the Democratic mayoral primary (the Republicans all coalesced behind Sliwa). They are not using it for the General election in November.Usually one extreme leftist advances because their base is enough to get pass the initial level because those to the right never coalesce behind anybody to get a majority in the first round. If the leftist has 20 percent and 8 more "reasonable" people average 10 percent each the leftist advances and usually 1-2 of the more "reasonable" people. In the next phase the leftist goes up to maybe 22 percent and doesn't win. |
