I wouldn't mind if there was an actual choice to be made when voting. However, the Republican Party under Trump (and others before him) doesn't represent anything that I'd consider to be "conservative" or aligning with the values that movement claims to profess. The GOP/MAGA platform currently seems to value cruelty and enriching Donald Trump above all else, with a secondary priority of gutting the government while the richest Americans pay far less than their fair share. The Democrats are far from perfect, but I can't even give a moment's thought to voting for a Republican right now. And don't tell me that I'm "soft" on crime, whatever that means. I believe people should follow the rules of a community, and if there is an issue with those rules, use the existing systems to change them. I don't buy arguments that people who enter the country illegally have committed no crime, they may have committed no crime since entering the country but entering illegally is still illegal. (We also need comprehensive immigration reform so that people who want to come to the United States can do so legally and without jumping through nearly as many hoops.) I don't support the legalization of marijuana and the like. Talk to me long enough and you might discover other issues where I'm not as "liberal" as some here would like to think I am. But if you want my honest opinion, the current Congress and presidential administration are causing irreparable harm to the United States and the rest of the world, and at the end of the day, very few people are going to be better off as a result of anything the Republican Party is currently doing.
