The rapist must marry the maiden (if she chooses)—Deuteronomy 22:29

That is not what that verse says, particularly in context. When you look at verse 28, it refers to a man and an unbetrothed woman who get busted having consensual sex.

If you want to see what happens to rapists, look at verse 25.
