I never heard of this outrage before

Posted by Peter Rosa on Sun Apr 21 20:45:12 2024

During the flood of 2011, the Corp of Engineers decided to dynamite a 2,000 ft section of a Missouri levee, protecting over 100,000 acres of the finest farm ground in the world from the Mississippi River, to save a handful of dilapidated shacks in Cairo, Illinois.
All the flooded Missouri land deeds did state that the property was in a floodway and could be flooded in an emergency to save towns along the Mississippi River, but nobody believed the Feds would actually blow out the levee. Just 10 acres of the laser graded, intensively farmed Missouri delta was worth more than the entire slum of Cairo, but the Corp of Engineers decided to flood over 100,000 acres, destroying the land with blue holes and sand.
