He made a commitment a while back to appoint a black female, but apparently has also subsequently said that he does not want to influence the primary campaign that is underway for Feinstein's seat (she was retiring in 2024). Lee is one of the candidates -- clearly making her the incumbent would be interfering in the primary. |
