That's not what the case is about if I can trust what I read in the NYT. This is what I gather, but correct me if I'm off base.Trump didn't get paid, he paid someone else. So it's not a case about hiding income. Supposedly what Bragg is trying to prove is that Trump made the payment to help his election chances. If that were the case, then Trump should have declared that as a campaign contribution. Election fraud is a felony. There also could be a misdemeanor fine for mischaracterizing the payment in business records but I don't imagine that grand juries are convened for potential misdemeanors. |
