Re: I Am Not Panicking

You already acknowledge that your experience is anecdotal, so I won’t talk about that point.

Rallies are not at all representative of voting, it’s not like you need to attend a rally to get a card to vote. All it means is that Trump voters are more likely to want to attend his rallies. I voted for Biden and you couldn’t pay me to go to a Biden rally (or any candidate’s rally). Most people are the same. As an added point, they did pretty much only do rallies where he’s popular. They did one in New Jersey a while back, but it was in a more conservative part of the state, and it was newsworthy that he did one there.

An interesting thing about anecdotes is that my father expressed the same idea to me that you did, that almost everyone he knows said they supported Trump so he thought that he would win.

Regarding mail in voting, they didn’t change the rules in any key states. That is Pennsylvania used the same rules it implemented pre-COVID.* Just because more people decided to vote by mail doesn’t mean anything. Same thing with the other states that voted for Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020 (and also Nevada). The states that did change their rules like New Jersey are irrelevant.

So given mail in voting, what kind of shenanigans do you think went on? Did they submit ballots for people who didn’t otherwise vote? There’s no evidence of that.

“Orange Man Bad” is a sufficient reason. If you remember a lot of my arguments in 2016 against Trump it was pretty much the same thing. In 2016 a lot of people stayed home because they didn’t like either and the conventional wisdom was that Trump would lose anyway. They didn’t make the same mistake again.

While not proving anything either way, Trump actually underperformed members of Congress. People actually voted otherwise straight Republican while voting for Biden. If they were doing voter fraud, that wouldn’t have happened. It shows how much people just dislike him. It also shows that this wasn’t a Democratic landslide and more of an “anyone but Trump” election. Also note that on election night, Purdue won more votes than Ossoff, and there were more votes for Loeffler and the other Republican than for Warnock and the other Democrat.

*Pennsylvania did change one thing, which was allow ballots to be received later, but the Supreme Court forced them to segregate the ballots accordingly so we know that this had no effect.
