The gravity of January 6 is far more severe than Trump's individual tax returns (and there are still ongoing investigations into whether he broke any tax laws). Trump, like Nixon before him, tried to argue executive privilege to SCOTUS, and like Nixon before him, Trump lost. Nixon was trying to keep the actual Watergate tapes from being given to Congress and the special prosecutor, because he knew those records would cook his goose. I'm pretty sure Trump was also trying to keep his own highly damaging materials from Congress, fir much the same reasons as Nixon. |
