It's not an insult to King by any stretch. King's disapproval rating in a 1968 Gallup poll was 75%. The people who hated King in the 60's are old people watching FOX now.

"decades of progress" is usually uttered by people who thing racism is over because they don't see it in their lives.

Of course this is highly hypothetical because had King lived, the problem of racism might be solved or close to.
