Maybe. Having gone to lots of services at each type of church, I'm struggling to recall that ever being mentioned.

I think that our perceptions of evangelical churches are very different. My perceptions are based on attending services at evangelical churches and I think that yours are based mostly on when they come up in a political context, which given your sources are likely not very flattering.

Also, I'm guessing that you are thinking that evangelical churches are nearly all white. That may be true in places that are nearly all white, but evangelical churches in Los Angeles are very diverse. I've been to evangelical churches that were mostly Asian and others that were mostly white.

My current church is very diverse. They did a survey a few years ago and it was something like 33% black, 30% white, 18% hispanic, 12% asian and the rest other/multiracial. There are also plenty of evangelical churches that are black churches and over 90% black. I think that one of the biggest is in NYC, but you probably don't think of it as evangelical because it's a black church.
