Re: Fredo: Kill White Kids to Spur Police Reform

White kids were drafted all along, long before Johnson. Last time I looked, Elvis was white.

The way the draft worked before the lottery was oldest first, from 26 down to 18. There were some rules that placed those who were deferred at the top of the list and extended their eligibility until 35. The extended eligibility was a myth because Eisenhower's executive order declared over 26 could not be called up until all under 26 had been.

Before Johnson's Feb 1965 escalation, the call up age was around 24. This meant there was sufficient time to go to college, get married, 2 kids and get a hardship deferrment. Options included 5 years of graduate school or an industrial deferement.

The call up age fell to 22 within a couple of months due to Johnson's escalation. It had fallen to 18 1/2 within a year. This put a severe strain on what had hitherto been an easy way to avoid military service via college and marriage.

Serious questions regarding our involvement started not when draft notices started appearing, it started when more and more young boys of all colors were coming home in flag draped caskets in a conflict without any real objective.

Johnson escalated the war on Feb 7th 1965. The teach-ins started on March 26th 1965.

The big increase in deaths lagged by a couple of years.
