Sure, most of them wouldn't have died if they hadn't had heart disease or diabetes. But they wouldn't have died just then. They would have lived longer.

The three people in my family who have died from covid:

- One age 64 with lung damage from prior successful chemo but no other major ills; the breast cancer was cured so she probably had 20 years of life left otherwise.

- One age 72 with no major ailments - probably would have been good for 20 years too.

- One age 95, in a nursing home, but chugging along - probably lost 3 years of life or so.

And as older people are getting closer to 100% vaccinated, the people who are dying now are losing more years of otherwise expected life than when the 95 year olds were dying of covid. And heart disease and diabetes are much more treatable than they used to be.
