No, not an "anti-Israel" move, but a pro-ICC (or at least anti-anti-ICC) move.Way back when, during the Nuremberg trials that followed WW II, Justice Robert Jackson, who served as chief prosecutor, said that the United States would allow itself and its leaders to be held to the same standards that we were holding the former leaders of Germany to. But we never really have. And haven't let our allies be so held. That is the message that putting sanctions on ICC officials sends. "We won't let you even attempt to hold our friends to the standards others are held to." It truly made people think of the phrase "the ugly Americans". |
