It's very different when it comes to kids, who absorb everything the see and do, and need guidance as to what's right and wrong. Having kids read those books unchecked creates a mindset that allows the hate of racism, et.al. to grow in their minds as being good attributes when they are anything but.

Kids shouldn't be exposed to those books until they demonstrate they have an understanding of the evil of racism etc. as rooted in hate. That's never for way too many.
