That's faulty reasoning as "Asian" is also a term that the West came up with. So is the entire English language for that matter. Also many Asian country names in English are exonyms.

I think that Jeff makes a good point that "Oriental" is more descriptive than Asian because Asia's a big place. Although "East Asian" is the solution here.
