Even if you bring multiple vouchers into the cashout machine, you can put in multiple vouchers and then press a button when done. So in your example you would get a dime and a penny for 11 cents instead of getting 4 pennies and then a nickel and 3 pennies.

So Jeff's friend got folding money instead of bagfuls of pennies.
