From a friend of mine who is a legal attache in DPG...this sums up why I oppose the death penalty very well:

1) The death penalty cannot be undone.
2) Unscrupulous people in the justice system have assured errors.
3) People make mistakes, even really good people doing their best to make fair judgments.
4) The death penalty has never prevented murder or any other heinous crime.
5) The death penalty is the ultimate violence.
6) Violence teaches violence as a "solution."
7) Separating the criminal from society protects society from that criminal without resorting to violence.
