Or perhaps the daughter is just shocked, and can't square it with the mother (and other relatives) she knows. No mention if they were seen engaging in violence, or simply being present there. But I can't get behind the notion that we should give family members a pass to commit crimes, if we would turn in other people we knew to have done the same thing.
