Posted by tracksionmotor on Mon Dec 25 14:45:12 2006, in response to Re: Protests over NY police shooting, posted by Train Dude on Mon Dec 25 00:50:24 2006. 9mm ACP firearms issued to NYPD replaced 0.38 Colt revolvers which used soft-nose lead half-jacketed bullets. The 9mm uses a full metal jacket...'ball rounds'....to insure proper cycling of semiautomatic pistol which are ineffecatious and often bounce from solid objects to injure non-combatents. I would not want NYPD personell to carry weapons loaded with hollow nose or specifically designed penetrating/expanding bullets. Results of error would be devastating.'Fiftery shots' was a display of 9mm ball round to stop a vehicle and its driver after attempt to run down a police officer. NYPD officers are not allowed to carry a shotgun...these weapons are special issue and normally carried by RMP sargeant and Emergency Service. You are a police officer confronted by a vehicle which struck another offficer....what you are going to do is discharge your weapon until the vehicle stops per your training and the service weaspon issued. What can you do to stop a rolling train? Jethro Tull: 'Charlie stole the handle and the train kept moving on...it kept moving on.' |
