I remember it well as it's near my neighborhood and I've used the School Street crossing many times. I don't remember reading that it was illegals. Anyway, even if they were illegal it shouldn't be plural "illegals" as only the driver who cost the taxpayers the money. The passengers, whether legal or not, were innocent of any traffic laws. RIP all of them.By the way. The school street grade crossing elimination is finished and open. I went through it the other day. It is the steepest LIRR underpass I've ever seen, much steeper than any other new elimination on the main line. I thought I was driving on a roller coaster!! (I'm going to miss hearing the whistles from that crossing late at night at my house 3 miles away!!) |
