The thesis of the state socialist is that no line may be drawn between private and public affairs which the state may not cross at will; that omnipotence of legislation is the first postulate of all just political theory.
Woodrow Wilson wrote that back in 1887, a quarter-century before he became POTUS. Now contrast that with what the Roman historian Tacitus said (often paraphrased as "The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws") and it becomes plain what the Democrats' agenda is.

BTW, in the same 1887 essay, Wilson says that "socialism and democracy" are "one and the same".
