Hell, it's not even that. I'm not even objecting to being called unpatriotic for not doing those things. What I am objecting to is placing rituals over thoughts and meaningful actions. A person is not honoring anyone by saluting the flag while inside his mind he resents doing so. People seem to believe that the very ritual itself is what is necessary, and not the thoughts and mentality associated with it. Rituals are only meaningful when the participants are willing. |
