US density is about 100 per square mile (maybe more like 120 if you exclude Alaska), less than California's density, which is 250 people per square mile.

Canada has about 38 million people. The strip of its southern-most 100 miles contains most of its population and about 300,000 square miles. So also roughly 100 people per square mile.
