Yes, Patty Hearst was convicted in the bank robbery, was sentenced to 35 years pending a final sentencing hearing, the trial judge passed away, the replacement gave her 7 years. After appeals, she was in jail for 22 months, her sentence was commuted by Jimmy Carter.Representative Leo Ryan was collecting signatures on a petition for Hearst's release several weeks before he was murdered while visiting the Jonestown settlement in Guyana.[70] Actor John Wayne spoke after the Jonestown cult deaths, pointing out that people had accepted that Jim Jones had brainwashed 900 individuals into mass suicide but would not accept that the Symbionese Liberation Army could have brainwashed a kidnapped teenage girl.
